What: Training the Brace and other mobility tasks

Who should come: Anyone who needs their dog to help them walk or keep their balance, help them up off the floor or out of a chair.

Why: For those with Service Dogs mobility tasks can not only be useful but also life saving. These tasks need to be trained properly in order to prevent injury to both handler and dog.

Meeting Description: We will discuss proper body mechanics for bracing, for both dog and handler.
We will also discuss various harnesses and their uses.
Gait strengths and weaknesses will be a group discussion with an exchange of ideas to help solve particular problems involved with using a dog as a walking cane.
Do you need a cane like posture from your dog or a counter balance??? we will discuss both and how they affect the dogs structure.
I will demonstrate proper technique for using a dog to get up from the floor as well as transfer from a chair to standing position with open discussion about how and why I do things the way I do with my dogs.
we will also discuss how to determine the correct safe amount of weight that a dog can handle based on their build and musculature, and how to condition a dog to handle more than he us currently doing so that he can avoid early retirement due to injury.

Any ideas for what you would like to train on the alternating weekends from the regular obedience class is appreciated.
